PPM Reimbursement Increased to 130% for Summer 2025 PCS Season

PPM Reimbursement Increased to 130% for Summer 2025 PCS Season

There’s no sugarcoating it, this year’s PCS season has had its challenges. With new systems and contract changes rolling out, many military families are feeling the strain. As a result, a Personally Procured Move (PPM) is looking more appealing than ever.

Here’s some good news: from May 15, 2025 through September 30, 2025, the Department of Defense has increased PPM reimbursement rates from 100% to 130% of the Global Household Goods Contract (GHC) rate.

PCS moves are already stressful enough. This bump in reimbursement is a welcomed boost for families looking to take a bit more control, and potentially earn some money for moving, this summer.

Why Consider a PPM?

Financial Incentive
The most obvious advantage is the opportunity to make money on your move. With the 130% reimbursement, the government will now cover more than the actual cost of a comparable move under the GHC. That means every moving supply, from cardboard boxes to rental trucks, could be fully reimbursed, and you might even come out ahead if you move for less than the reimbursed amount.

Control and Care
When you handle your own move, you’re in control. You decide how your items are packed and transported, meaning fewer surprises when it’s time to unpack. For many, this control adds peace of mind, knowing that their belongings are being handled with care.

Flexibility
One of the biggest advantages of a PPM is the ability to move on your schedule. You won’t have to compete for moving company slots during peak PCS season, which can lead to delays and logistical headaches. A PPM puts the timeline in your hands.

Is a PPM Right for You?

Let’s be real, packing up your life and driving cross-country isn’t easy. But for many military families, the trade-off is worth it. With some planning, organization, and clear communication with your household, a PPM can be both financially and logistically rewarding.

So if you’re facing a PCS move this summer, now’s the time to seriously consider a PPM. With the increased reimbursement rate, it might just make the most sense for your family.
